Abstract

Banana pseudostem waste was minimally utilized and often discarded by the community. However, many studies found that banana pseudostems could be fermented to produce bioethanol due to its high cellulose content. Therefore, this study conducted bioethanol fermentation from banana pseudostems waste (Musa balbisiana) pretreated with KOH microwave by separate hydrolysis and fermentation. The effect of yeast concentrations (8, 10, and 12%) and fermentation times (6, 7, 8, 12, and 13 days) on pretreated banana pseudostems waste was analyzed. The fermentation applied enzymatic kinetic modeling using Michaelis-Menten's equations to determine the reaction rate. The result showed that the sample with 12% yeast and fermentation time in 13 days produced the highest ethanol content. The appropriate kinetic modeling result was similar to Hanes Woolf's linearization modeling with variations of the 10% yeast concentrations, resulting in KM values of 160,65 x 10-5 g mL-1 and Vmax of 68,37 x 10-5 g mL-1 h with regression 0,99.
