Abstract

Adolescents are one of the phases of life that are at risk of experiencing various nutritional problems and other health problems. One of the factors that cause nutrition and health problems is due to the lack of knowledge of adolescents about nutrition and health in general. One way to increase nutrition knowledge in adolescents is to provide adequate information. Efforts to provide this information can be done through nutrition education by utilizing Instagram social media as an educational medium. This study was conducted to determine changes in increasing knowledge of the four pillars of balanced nutrition after being given intervention through Instagram social media in adolescents at SMA Negeri 1 Babat Supat. The research method used is a Quasi-Experimental design with a One Group Pretest-Posttest design. The research sample consisted of 48 respondents of grade 12 students with purposive sampling techniques adjusted to inclusion and exclusion criteria. Knowledge data was obtained through filling out questionnaires independently and analyzed using statistical applications with the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test. The results showed differences in the average knowledge before the intervention (62.19) and after the intervention (80.52) with a difference (18.31). These results show that nutrition education provided through Instagram social media has changed in increasing knowledge as evidenced by the results of statistical tests obtained, namely p-value (0.000), so it can be concluded that Instagram social media has an effect on increasing respondents' knowledge as an educational medium. Researchers suggest that schools can use Instagram social media as an alternative learning material to conduct education and health promotion to their students.
