Abstract

Physical Quality of King Grass (Pennisetum purpureophoides) Silage with Different Wilting Times and Aerobicity (Supervised by ARMINA FARIANI). This research aims was to determine the appropriate wilting and aerobiosis time to obtain the best physical quality of King grass silage (Pennisetum purpureophoides). The study was conducted from December to February 2024 at the Livestock Experiment Cage of the Animal Husbandry Department of Livestock Technology and Industry and continued at the Nutrition and Animal Feed Laboratory of the Animal Husbandry Program of the Department of Livestock Technology and Industry, Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya University. The research was analyzed descriptively with 8 treatments and 4 replications. The treatments consisted of factor Aerobiosis (A1= without vacuum A2= vacuumed) and factor Wilting (B1= 0 hours, B2= 2 hours, B3= 4 hours, B4= 6 hours). The results of this study showed that the 4-hour wilting treatment with vacuuming resulted in the lowest pH value of 4.18, with the highest percentage of green color at 62.50%, aroma percentage of 65.63%, and the highest non-clumping and slimy texture with a value of 65.63%. Based on the results obtained from this research, it could be concluded that the vacuumed treatment with a 4 hour wilting time produced the best quality of color, aroma, texture, and pH of the silage compared to other treatments. Penelitian ini bertujuan menentukan waktu pelayuan dan aerobisitas yang tepat untuk mendapatkan kualitas fisik silase rumput raja (Pennisetum purpureophoides) yang terbaik. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan pada bulan Desember sampai dengan Februari 2024 di kandang percobaan Program Studi Peternakan Jurusan Teknologi dan Industri Peternakan dan dilanjutkan di Laboratorium Nutrisi dan Makanan Ternak Program Studi Peternakan Jurusan Teknologi Peternakan Fakultas Pertanian Universitas Sriwijaya. Penelitian ini dianalisis secara deskriptif dengan 8 perlakuan dan 4 ulangan. Adapun perlakuannya terdiri dari faktor Aerobisitas (A1= tanpa vakum A2= divakum) dan faktor Pelayuan (B1= 0 jam, B2= 2 jam, B3= 4 jam, B4= 6 jam). Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa perlakuan pelayuan 4 jam dengan divakum menghasilkan nilai pH yang paling rendah yaitu 4,18 dengan nilai warna yang didominasi presentase warna hijau tertinggi yaitu 62,50%, memiliki presentase aroma 65,63%, dan menhasilkan tekstur tidak menggumpal dan berlendir paling tinggi dengan nilai 65,63%. Berdasarkan hasil yang diperoleh dari penelitian ini dapat disimpulkan bahwa perlakuan divakum dengan waktu pelayuan 4 jam menghasilkan kualitas warna, aroma, tekstur dan pH silase yang paling baik dibandingkan dengan perlakuan yang lainnya.
