Abstract

Payung Island is a water area located in Banyuasin Regency, South Sumatra. Macrozoobenthos are aquatic organisms that live on the bottom of slow moving waters, making them ideal biological indicators for monitoring water pollution and sensitive to changes in water quality. Decreased water quality has an impact on the ecosystem. This study was conducted to determine the substrate and abundance with water conditions, linking physical and chemical parameters. The method used was purposive sampling, analyzing the relationship of macrozoobenthos abundance with water quality and sedimentation using PCA. The results showed that the abundance of benthos in Payung Island Waters is influenced by temperature and substrate, this is due to variable factors that play a role in supporting the survival of benthos. The condition of Payung Island Waters has slow current characteristics with a type of clay substrate that supports benthic survival.
