Abstract
The process of the establishment press plate of the car body rise to the residual stress effect on mechanical properties and corrosion rate. Form of residual stress that is often found in car pick up because the car pick up there is a form of curvature that causes stresses. This research is done to analyze the corrosion that occurs in the indentation of car pick up plate and compare the corrosion rate between the vehicle body contained indentations with the car body that is not contained in the indentation in the media swamp water. The results of this research indicate that visual observations form of corrosion that occurs on the specimen is uniform corrosion. Specimens that form indentations have a higher corrosion rate than specimens straight shape. Of the value of the corrosion rate obtained 0.1773, 0.2572, 0.2544 for specimens straight shape and and 0.2762, 0.3512, 0.2243for specimen form of indentation. Corrosion resistance of the tested car pick up plate are included in the category Good for corrosion rate values ranged f r om 0.1 to 0.5 mm / y r. From metallographic observations, the specimen form of indentation that has been dipped in water swamps are intergranular cracking while on a straight-shaped specimens there is not intergranular cracking. Products of corrosion that occurs in both specimens is Fe(OH)2 and Fe(OH) 3
