Abstract

The objective of this study was to screen the addition of shrimp and cricket’s chitin into GYA media towards B. bassiana growth and its pathogenicity against larvae of P. xylostella. The experiment started ffom March until November 2004 in Laboratory of Entomology and Laboratory of Phytopathology, Department Plant Pests and Diseases, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Sriwijaya. This research was done at two steps experiment, i.e. selection the best medium for growing PD2 isolate and pathogenicity of B. bassiana towards larvae P. xylostella. The data was analysied by tabulation and description. The result showed that the addition of 5% shrimp chitin was the best for B. bassiana growth, i.e. 28.06%. The mortality of larvae on 107 spora per ml treatment was 88.75% effective to control larvae of P. xylostella. The percentage of mortality pupae was 51.63% and the percentage of appeared mature was 1.25-11.75%.
