Abstract

The objective of this experiment was to investigate the species and population of the oriental fruit fly and the influence of dropping frequency of methyl eugenol to fruit fly captures on jackfruit tree. The research was conducted at jackfruit trees in farmer area in three villages of Indralaya District, Ogan Ilir from Maret 2005 until April 2005. The research was arranged in a Group Randomised Design where the data was analysed using Anova, with four treatments and nine replications. The parameters of research were species and amount of fruit fly caught, and damage level. The result obtained were two species of the oriental fruit fly : Bactrocera dorsalis Hend & Bactrocera umbrosus Fab. The results showed the highest population of oriental fruit fly was 7.883 flies at Payakabung, was 3.995 flies at Tanjung Seteko and was 4.215 flies at Tanjung Mulia, the highest damage level was 28.39 % at Payakabung and the best influence of dropping frequency was every four days.
