Abstract

The objective of the research was to know the effects of mixture of chitinous material derived from crab waste (25%), soybean meal/SBM (50%), and nitrogen manure (25%) in controlling root-knot nematode {Meloidogyne incognita) on peanut. The research was conducted under field condition and Nematological Laboratory of Department of Plant Pest and Disease, Agriculture Faculty of Sriwijaya University, from July to September 2005. The research was arranged in a Completely Randomized Design, with seven treatments and four replications. The treatments were A (control without nematodes), B (control with nematodes), C (chitin 50 g per 5 kg of soil), D (Furadan, 2 g per 5 kg of soil), E (mixture of chitin, SBM and nitrogen 25 g per 5 kg of soil), F (mixture of chitin, SBM and nitrogen 50 g per 5 kg of soil), and G (mixture of chitin, SBM and nitrogen manure 100 g per 5 kg of soil). The results showed that the best treatment was 25 g mixture per 5 kg soil. Anova Single Factor Analyses showed that the mixture containing 50% SBM, 25% chitin and 25% nitrogen manure significantly increased fresh root weights, significantly reduced nematode populations in root, and nematode population in the rhizosphere. Treatment with chitin alone at rates of 50 g per 5 kg soil increased fresh shoot weights and decreased nematode population in the rhizosphere.
