Abstract

Kersen leaves (Muntingia Calabura L) contain secondary metabolite compounds alkaloids, flavonoids and tanins. The use of herbal medicine during pregnancy needs to be considered because the drug can cross the placenta so that it can cause teratogenic effects on the fetus. Teratogenic toxicity research on the ethanol fraction of kersen leaves (Muntingia Calabura L) has been conducted to determine the safety when given to mice. The doses given were 63.55; 95.32; 137.09; and 158.86 mg/kgbw. Administration of the fraction was done in the organogenesis phase of the 9th heri to the 17th day of pregnancy, on the 18th day of pregnancy. On the 18th day, the mother mice were dissected to observe live fetuses, dead fetuses, implantation, resorption, fetus weight, fetus length, fetus external abnormalities, and fetus internal abnormalities.The results of data analysis using ANOVA and DMRT (Duncan Multiple Range Test) showed that the fraction administration had a significant effect on fetus survival. The results of data analysis using ANOVA and DMRT (Duncan multiple range test) showed that the administration of fractions had a sig nificant effect on fetal death, fetal body weight, hematoma, hemorrhage, delayed interparietal ossification, asymmetrical shaped sternum, asymmetrical dumbbell-shaped sternum (pvalue <0.05). At the administration of the fraction at a dose of 63.55 mg / kgBB has caused teratogenic effects so it can be concluded that the ethanol fraction of kersen leaves has a teratogenic effect on the fetus of mice (Mus muculus).
