Abstract

This research aims to produce a water filtration membrane based on a mixture of Polyvinylidene Fluoride (PVDF) with the addition of Silver Nitrate (AgNO3). The research methodology includes preparation of tools and materials, material mixing process, flat sheet molding method, tensile testing, Clean Water Permeability (CWP) testing, and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) observations. Three variations of PVDF concentration, namely 20%, 22,5%, and 25%, were mixed with AgNO3 and tested to determine tensile strength, clean water permeability, and morphological structure using SEM. The results show that the membrane with a PVDF concentration of 25% has the highest tensile strength of 10,05556 MPa and the largest water flux of 1,01345 L.m-2.h-1.bar.-1. SEM observation results indicate that increasing PVDF concentration reduces particle agglomeration, improves pore distribution, and increases membrane stability. The PVDF@AgNO3 membrane with a concentration of 25% showed the best performance in terms of mechanical strength and water permeability, making it a potential choice for household water treatment applications. The conclusion of this research is that the PVDF membrane with the addition of AgNO3 is effective as an alternative for water filtration, with a PVDF concentration of 25% showing the best performance in terms of flux and tensile strength. This research provides the basis for further development in making more efficient and stronger water filtration membranes.
