Abstract
Soil is one of construction strength which supporting structural base. Good soil is a soil that capable of sustaining the existing load on top of it without losses were so great. Soil characteristic on site will be considerate in construction planning. Soil in Gasing, Banyuasin Regency from research of Andhika (2015) is clay. This clay-sized sieve 200 82,56%, liquid limit (LL) = 68%, plastic limit (PL) = 26%, and Plasticity Index (PI) = 42%. According AASHTO classification system, clay is categorized in A-7-6 group and compatible with USCS, clay is also categorized in CH group which is anorganic clay with high plasticity. Therefore, it is necessary to study the physical properties and mechanical strength of the construction of buildings in order to correspond to the soil propertiesare fit for use as the base of the building with soil stabilization. In this study, a stabilizing agent used is soil binder grading 20 g/liter, 25 g/liter, and 30 g/liter and bagasse ash with variation of 4%, 8%, and 12% of the sample weight. Tests of soil properties includes testing soil water content, specific gravity test, Atterberg limits, soil particle analyzer test, test soil compaction standards and unconsolidated undrained Triaxial test was done to determine the shear strength mixture. The results of the study soil mixture obtained the value of the liquid limit, plastic limit, and plasticity index decreased from the original soil. The largest decline occurred in the mixing of 30 g/liter of soil binder and 12% bagasse ash. For standard proctor test of original soil obtained optimum moisture content of 21.5% and dry bulk density of 1.4 g/cm3. Shear strength with the treatment period 7 days and 14 days tends to increase, the biggest increase in the addition of 4% bagasse ash and 20 g/liter soil binder of 0.709 kg/cm2.However, shear strength decreases with the increase of soil binders and bagasse ash. The highest value of cohesion occurs in 4% ash mixing bagasse and 20 g/liter soil binder of 0.690 kg/cm2 at 14-day treatment period. The highest value of the friction angle at 12% ash mixture bagasse and 20 g/liter of soil binder is 6,8˚. Thus, addition of soil binder and bagasse ash on a particular variation can enhance the cohesion, friction angle, and shear strength.
