Abstract

Introduction : The family is the smallest unit of society that is interconnected, in the family there are elderly people who often experience disorders of the aging process, one of which is joint disorders, especially gouty arthritis. As for the levels of uric acid in the blood that are too high, the body cannot process them properly, so uric acid crystals will form which accumulate in the joints. Symptoms due to uric acid buildup are stiffness and pain that is very disturbing. Gouty arthritis pain can be given non pharmacological therapy, namely warm red ginger compresses. Objective: To provide family nursing care with warm compresses of red ginger against gouty arthritis pain. Methods: The method used in this writing is descriptive qualitative with a case study approach on three managed clients with gouty arthritis pain. Results: Obtained data on the three managed clients have a major nursing problem, namely chronic pain. The intervention given to managed clients is a warm compress of red ginger for 5 consecutive days with an intervention duration of 15 minutes. The results of the intervention of warm compresses of red ginger obtained that the three clients decreased pain levels as evidenced by the three clients said the pain decreased, could feel relaxed joints. Conclusion: Warm red ginger compress is given to the three clients as a complementary therapy to reduce pain. This is due to the physiological response of the body, namely increased blood flow, muscle relaxation, and can reduce pain due to muscle spasm stiffness.
