Abstract
Background: Fever is an increase in body temperature above 36 0C caused by infectious or non-infectious factors. The data on the incidence of hyperthermia cases in children with various types of diseases reached 65 million cases, then the number of diseases accompanied by fever was 62% in children, with a high percentage of deaths of 33% of cases in South Asia and Southeast Asia. Aloe vera compress is a non-pharmacological therapy used to reduce fever. Compress using aloe vera will be more effective in speeding up the release of heat from the body, because it contains saponin compounds. Objective: To describe the implementation of nursing care practices and applying aloe vera compress therapy with children who experience hyperthermia in hydrocephalus and epilepsy patients Method: Qualitative descriptive with a case study approach on three pediatric patients with a nursing diagnosis of hyperthermia. Results: Nursing problems that emerged in the three patients were hyperthermia and the risk of ineffective cerebral perfusion. Nursing intervention for hyperthermia was hyperthermia management and aloe vera compress therapy. The risk of ineffective cerebral perfusion was intracranial pressure monitoring. Conclusion: Nursing care provided to the three managed patients includes assessment, nursing diagnosis, planning, implementation and evaluation. The implications of applying aloe vera compress therapy to hyperthermic patients has a positive effect on the child’s physiological response causing body temperature to decrease.
