Abstract
Hypertension, also known as high blood pressure, is a condition characterized by an increase in blood pressure that can cause problems in several organs, such as the brain experiencing cerebrovascular disorders. Cerebrovascular diseases encompass all disorders where an area of the brain is affected temporarily or permanently by ischemia or bleeding, and one or more blood vessels in the brain are involved in the pathological process. Cerebrovascular diseases include stroke, carotid stenosis, vertebral stenosis, intracranial stenosis, aneurysms, and vascular malformations. Patients treated in the ICU receive pharmacological therapy in the form of antihypertensives, but the patients' blood pressure remains high and can be classified as grade 1 hypertension. Therefore, non-pharmacological therapy is needed to help control blood pressure as an adjunct therapy. The administration of foot massage intervention will stimulate sensory nerves and be directly conveyed by motor nerves to the desired organ, causing the body to relax and stabilizing hemodynamic parameters. This massage will release substances such as endorphins, serotonin, histamine, and bradykinin, which reduce sympathetic nerve activity, thereby increasing arteriolar and venous vasodilation, leading to decreased peripheral vascular resistance and lowering blood pressure. The method used is descriptive research with a case study approach on 3 hypertension patients. The three patients were given foot massage therapy for three consecutive days with a duration of 10-15 minutes, showing changes in the form of a decrease in blood pressure, with an average systolic decrease of 10 mmHg and an average diastolic decrease of 2 mmHg after the intervention. Foot massage therapy can be used as an adjunct therapy for hypertensive patients with cerebrovascular complications to help control blood pressure because foot massage therapy can make patients relax, thereby lowering blood pressure.
