Abstract
Background: Fracture is a discontinuity or damage to the structure of bone tissue, cartilage or epiphysis. Children and teenagers are an age group that is vulnerable to fractures because children and teenagers are experiencing bone development, intense physical activity, immature motor skills and poor nutritional balance and bone density. The problem that generally arises after fracture treatment is pain. One physical therapy that is considered effective in reducing pain is Cryotherapy (cold compress). Objective: Describes the results of pediatric nursing practice that focuses on nursing care for children with post-operative fractures and is in accordance with evidence-based learning studies. Method: The method used was a descriptive case study approach and journal review of patients with post-operative fractures. Result: The results of the assessment showed that the three patients managed had fracture surgery. There were 6 nursing problems in 2 managed patients and 4 nursing problems in 2 managed patients. The therapy given in this scientific work's nursing care is Cryotherapy (cold compress). Cryotherapy intervention (cold compress) was given for 3 consecutive days to the three patients treated for 10-15 minutes. Cryotherapy (cold compress) as an additional therapy to help reduce pain levels provided in this scientific work can help reduce pain levels more optimally. Discussion: Cryotherapy (cold compress) is a therapy that provides a cold effect on the parts of the body that need it, which aims to reduce pain by constricting blood flow/vasoconstriction in the area that needs it. Cold temperatures are also thought to be able to reduce the speed of transmission of nerve impulses in the nerve fibers that transmit pain signals, thereby reducing the sensation of pain. Conclusion: Cryotherapy (cold compress) as additional therapy in reducing pain levels in post-fracture surgery patients. Cryotherapy intervention (cold compress) can be an alternative to help reduce pain levels in post-fracture surgery patients. Keywords : Cold Compress, Cryotherapy, Fracture, Pain.
