Abstract

Background: Many peripheral perfusion problems are found to be ineffective in diabetic patients. The occurrence of ineffective peripheral perfusion is due to the instability of glucose levels in the blood where the blood glucose levels undergo an increase in blood sugar from the normal range called hyperglycemia. This ineffective peripheral perfusion in DM patients can cause a tingling sensation that often arises. It is related to the peripheral blood circulation that decreases to nerve fibers. Objective: To provide an overview of foot exercise interventions in patients with type II diabetes mellitus with ineffective peripheral perfusion nursing problems. Method: The method used a case study by selecting patients with type 2 DM who were being hospitalized in the Komering ward 1.2 at Palembang Central General Hospital of Dr. Mohammad Hoesin. Results: There was an increase in peripheral perfusion seen in the three managed patients, characterized by the improved capillary filling from 4 seconds to 2 seconds, decreased pale skin color, decreased muscle weakness and cramps, warm palpation, and improved skin turgor. Discussion: In diabetic mellitus patients, it needs to do leg exercises; with foot exercises there will be leg movements that cause the stiffness of the leg muscles and compress the veins around the muscles. This will push towards the heart and the venous pressure will decrease. This mechanism known as the "venous pump" will help expedite blood circulation in the legs to improve blood circulation. Conclusion: After being given gymnastics therapy for 3 consecutive days, the problem was partially resolved and the three patients experienced an increase in peripheral diffusion in DM patients.
