Abstract

Acute Respiratory Infection (ARI) is a disease that continues to be a health problem in developing countries and the main cause of death throughout the world which can attack children and toddlers. This study aims to analyze the condition of the home environment with the incidence of ISPA in toddlers aged 12-59 months in the working area of the Karang Raja Community Health Center, Prabumulih City. This research was descriptive quantitative with a cross sectional design on 156 respondents (mothers of toddlers aged 12-59 months with a history of ARI in the last 1 month). The variables observed were exclusive breastfeeding, immunization status, smoking habits of household residents, use of mosquito repellent, residential density, ventilation, humidity, temperature and lighting. Data were analyzed univariately, bivariately using the chi-square test and multivariately using the multiple logistic regression test with a prediction model. This study used a questionnaire to obtain information regarding ISPA complaints. The results of the study showed that factors influencing ISPA in toddlers were residential density (p= 0.021) and temperature (p= 0.003). Meanwhile, exclusive breastfeeding, immunization status, smoking habits, use of mosquito repellent, ventilation, humidity and light do not influence the incidence of ARI in toddlers. Room temperature in the house is the dominant factor in the incidence of ISPA in toddlers. It can be concluded that the incidence of ISPA in toddlers aged 12-59 months can be prevented by maintaining the room temperature in the house according to needs by regularly opening the windows every morning and evening so that air circulation remains good.
