Abstract
Penelitian ini melaporkan hasil studi tentang pengaruh aplikasi ozon dengan metode kombinasi arcing plasma dan dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) terhadap minyak jelantah. Chamber ozon pada penelitian ini menggunakan elektroda batang dengan jarak cela 1,5mm yang menghasilkan konsentrasi ozon tertinggi. Paparan konsentrasi ozon pada sampel minyak jelantah menggunakan input tegangan dari pembangkitan tegangan tinggi searah transformator flyback yang menghasilkan tegangan 6,7, dan 8 kV dengan variasi waktu paparan 60, 120, 180, dan 240 menit. Sampel yang sudah dipaparkan konsentrasi ozon dipanaskan menggunakan oven dengan temperatur 1050C selama 180 menit. Dilanjutkan dengan melakukan pengujian tegangan tembus pada sampel minyak jelantah. Dari hasil data yang didapatkan, semakin lama waktu paparan konsentrasi ozon pada minyak jelantah maka bau tengik pada minyak jelantah berkurang dan warna minyak jelantah berubah menjadi warna kemerahan dan jernih. Pada pengukuran nilai kadar air, sampel yang dipaparkan ozon selama 240 menit mengalami pengurangan kadar air sebesar 66% dibandingkan dengan sampel kontrol. Nilai pengujian tegangan tembus tertinggi terdapat pada sampel yang dipapari konsentrasi ozon selama 240 menit yaitu sebesar 33,28 kV dibandingkan pada sampel kontrol sebesar 13,76 kV. Hasil pengujian ini menunjukkan semakin lama waktu paparan konsentrasi ozon pada sampel semakin bagus kualitas minyak jelantah yang didapatkan. Hasil pengujian ini juga menunjukkan potensi minyak jelantah yang dipaparkan konsentrasi ozon sebagai pengganti minyak isolasi, paparan konsentrasi ozon tidak hanya mampu memperbaiki kualitas minyak, seperti warna, bau, dan kadar air, tetapi juga meningkatkan nilai tegangan tembus yang merupakan salah satu sifat utama minyak isolasi. This study reports the findings on the effect of ozone application using a combination of arcing plasma and dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) methods on waste cooking oil. In this research, the ozone chamber used a rod electrode with a gap of 1.5mm, producing the highest ozone concentration. Ozone concentration exposure on the waste cooking oil samples was achieved with a high-voltage direct current input from a flyback transformer, generating voltages of 6, 7, and 8 kV with exposure durations of 60, 120, 180, and 240 minutes. The sample exposed to ozone concentration was heated in an oven at a temperature of 105°C for 180 minutes. This was followed by dielectric breakdown voltage testing on the used cooking oil sample. Based on the data obtained, longer ozone exposure times led to a reduction in rancid odor in the waste cooking oil, and the oil color shifted to a clearer reddish hue. In moisture content measurements, the sample exposed to ozone for 240 minutes experienced a 66% reduction in moisture content compared to the control sample. The highest breakdown voltage value was found in the sample exposed to ozone for 240 minutes, reaching 33.28 kV, compared to 13.76 kV in the control sample. These results demonstrate that longer ozone exposure improves the quality of waste cooking oil. This testing also indicates the potential of ozone-treated waste cooking oil as an alternative to insulating oil, as ozone exposure not only enhances oil quality in terms of color, odor, and moisture content but also increases breakdown voltage, which is a key property of insulating oils.
