Abstract

Abstract Background Anorectal malformation is a congenital condition in the form of no anal canal or an anal canal that is imperfectly formed at birth. This study aims to determine the factors associated with continence function in anorectal malformation patients after posterior sagittal anorectoplasty (PSARP). Methods This research is descriptive analytical with a cross sectional design. The data in this study came from patient medical records and the Rintala questionnaire. The inclusion criteria for this study include patients diagnosed with atresia ani, undergoing PSARP surgery at Dr. RSUP. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang, having sufficient data in his medical records, was willing to be included in the research. This research analyst used the IBM SPSS statistics 23 application. Primary and secondary data used univariate, bivariate and multivariate analysis. Results The most common age at PSARP was 3-12 months, 15 (42.9%). The current age of respondents is dominated by the age category ≤3 years, namely 22 (62.9%) respondents. Males comprised 17 (48.6%) and female 18 (51.4%) respondents. The occupation of the respondents' parents is dominated by self-employment, namely 37.1% (13) of respondents. Ethnicity is dominated by the Palembang tribe, 80% (28) of respondents. MAR classification consists of perineal fistula 4 (11.4%), rectourethral fistula 4 (11.4%), rectovesical fistula 1 (2.9%), rectovaginal fistula 5 (14.3%), and vestibular fistula 7 (20%) respondents. It was found that 34 (97.1%) respondents had good-normal continence function and only 1 respondent had moderate-poor continence function. From the results of the Fisher exact test, it was found that age at PSARP, current age, gender, and MAR classification did not have a significant relationship. Conclusion The results of the study showed that there was no significant relationship between age at PSARP, current age, gender, and MAR classification with the continence function of post-PSARP anorectal malformation patients at Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang.
