Abstract
Brown Stem Planthoppers (BSP) (Nilaparvata Lugens) are the main pests of rice plants. People often control WBC by using synthetic insecticides, however the use of synthetic imsecticides can have negative impacts both on humans and the environment. Therefore, a natural alternative that is safer for the environment and humans is needed by using vegetable insecticides. Bay leaves contain active compounds that have the potential to be used as vegetable insecticides. This research aims to determine the ability of bay leaf extract as a botanical insecticide on brown planthopper mortality, determine the LC50 value of bay leaf extract, and determine the compound content in bay leaves. This research was conducted from December 2023 to May 2024. This research used a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with 6 treatments (1%, 2%, 4%, 3%, 5%, and control (+) with 4 repetitions. Calculated Average mortality of brown planthoppers after 24 hours. The data obtained was analyzed using One Way ANOVA. The results showed that bay leaf extract was effective as a vegetable insecticide on brown planthopper mortality with an LC50 value of 2,92% Bay leaf extract contains alkaloids, flavonoids, saponins, steroids, terpenoids, and tannins.
