Abstract

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease is a chronic lung which characterized by airflow resistance in the respiratory tract that not fully reversible. Chronic obstructive pulmonary diseaseinsidence was three causes of the death worldwide and a life-long disease can decrease a quality of life in patients. Family can help patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease in disease management. The objectives of the study was to know the correlation between family support and quality of life in patients from perspective with four dimension; informational support, emotional support, instrumental support, and appraisal support. The research design used cross sectional study. Sample method was chosen by using purposive sampling. Sample recruite 48 respondents was participated in the Polyclinic of Lung Hospital South Sumatera. Chi square test with the significance level of α = 0,05, it showed that ρ value 0,002 (ρ value< 0,05).The result showed that there was correlation between family support and quality of life in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Family support include; informational support, emotional support, instrumental support, and appraisal support can improve quality of life in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
