Abstract

Brain tumors are neoplasms that occur in the brain, with an increasing prevalence each year. The risk of brain tumors rises in women who use hormonal contraceptives. Each year, the use of hormonal contraceptives continues to increase. However, the quality of counseling provided by healthcare workers remains insufficient. The level of knowledge among healthcare workers, particularly in primary care services as the frontline, plays a crucial role in the quality of family planning counseling. This study aims to assess the level of knowledge among primary healthcare workers regarding the risk of developing brain tumors in women using hormonal contraceptives. This research is a descriptive study with a cross-sectional approach. The data used is primary data from the results of filling out direct questionnaire conducted with 72 healthcare workers in primary care services in Ilir Barat I Subdistrict, Palembang City. The sampling technique used was proportionate stratified random sampling. The sample of this study consisted of 72 respondents that qualify the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Knowledge of contraceptive types was found to be good in 59 respondents (95.2%), sufficient in 3 respondents (4.8%), and no respondents had poor knowledge. The level of healthcare workers knowledge about the risk of developing brain tumors in women using hormonal contraceptives was good in 18 respondents (29%), sufficient in 23 respondents (37.1%), and poor in 21 respondents (33.9%). Most respondents had good knowledge of contraception (95.2%), but their knowledge was only sufficient regarding the risk of developing brain tumors in women using hormonal contraceptives (37.1%).
