Abstract
Rotator cuff is a group of shoulder muscles consist of M.Subscapularis, M.Infraspinatus, M.Teres minor, and M.Supraspinatus. Rotator cuff syndrome (RCS) refers to injuries, diseases, or degenerative conditions affecting these muscles, including supraspinatus impingement, rotator cuff tears, acute calcific tendinitis, and biceps tendinitis. Studies indicate shoulder pain affects 7.7-62 on 1,000 people annually. This research aims to assess the characteristics of RCS patients at RSUP Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Hospital, Palembang. This is a descriptive research with a cross-sectional approach based on secondary data from medical records of RCS patients at RSUP Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang from January 2021-June 2024, using total sampling technique. The study sample consisted of 61 patients that qualify inclusion and exclusion criteria. Incidence of RCS most occurred in age 45-59, accounting for 33 patients (54.1%). Most patients are female, with 39 cases (63.9%). The primary cause was trauma from daily activities, affecting 26 patients (42.6%). Most patients (55.7%) were unemployed, and supraspinatus impingement or tendinitis was the common injury type on 22 patients (36.1%). Additionally, 20 patients (32.8%) had no previous illnesses, while 44 (72.1%) had no prior injuries. Non-operative treatment was common gived, utilized by 56 patients (91.8%). Rotator cuff syndrome is predominantly found in patients aged 45-59, most of whom are female, caused by daily activity trauma. The majority are unemployed, with the most common injury being supraspinatus impingement. Most patients have no history of previous illness or injury and are treated with non-operative management.
