Abstract

Slope stability is an important factor in the desirability of the mining process, a stable slope will reduce the potential for losses due to landslides. It is known that changes in water content play an important role in stability because they can affect the value of soil shear strength parameters and affect slope balance. This research aims to analyze the effect of water content on cohesion and internal shear angles, and slope stability. On overburden sample A1 from pit 2 West Banko, several tests were carried out on the physical and mechanical properties of the soil such as bulk density, specific gravity, water content, degree of saturation, cohesion and internal shear angle in the soil mechanics laboratory of PT. Bukit Asam, Tbk. The physical and mechanical properties used to obtain good FK values include actual conditions and saturated conditions. It is known that the actual FK value of the slope at a water content of 21.39% is 1.4, which is still in a safe condition, but when the water content is 35.27%, obtained from the laboratory test results, the FK value is 1.1, which is prone to landslides, so it is carried out redesign to make the slope safe even in extreme conditions while still complying with the safety standards KEPMEN ESDM 1827.K/30/MEM/2018. The results of this research show that there is a relationship between water content values and changes in cohesion, internal friction angle and slope stability. Based on the results obtained on the redesigned slope, the FK value is 1.3.
