Abstract

Dermatophytosis is a fungal infection caused by dermatophytes, characterized by symptoms such as red rashes, pruritus, and sometimes alopecia when the infection occurs on the scalp. Community health cadres are individuals who voluntarily originate from the community and play a crucial role in advancing public health. Serving as community liaisons in health promotion, they are instrumental in the prevention of dermatophytosis. The knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors of these cadres are key factors influencing the high prevalence of dermatophytosis. This research aims to analyze the relationship of knowledge and attitudes with health cadres and their behaviors in the prevention of dermatophytosis. This research employed a cross-sectional design with a sample of 81 health cadres at Merdeka Public Health Center Palembang. The data collection period was conducted from April to November 2024, using structured questionnaires. The data were analyzed using chi-square test with SPSS software. All respondents were female (100%), with the majority aged 41–55 years (51.9%), having completed high school (61.7%), the status was not working (95.1%), and had been a cadre for 2–5 years (43.2%). A total of 45 cadres (55.6%) had good knowledge, 57 cadres (70.4%) had good attitudes, and 61 cadres (75.3%) had good behavior towards dermatophytosis. Statistical analysis revealed significant relationship between the latest education and dermatophytosis prevention behavior (p=<0,001), as well as between knowledge and attitude with dermatophytosis prevention behavior (p=0.001). Good education, knowledge and attitudes are positively associated with preventive behaviors against dermatophytosis. Educational intervention to enchance knowledge and foster positive attitudes among health cadres are essential for improving efforts to prevent dermatophytosis.
