Abstract
Background: Checking the sex of the baby is the first step to be taken by health professionals after the mother gives birth. Although this examination is generally simple, challenges arise in cases of genitalia confusion known as Disorders of Sex Development (DSD). Research by Ediati in Semarang in 2016 found that 44-60% of midwives still experience errors in identifying DSD in newborns. Methods: Descriptive observational research with a cross-sectional research design was conducted from September 2, 2024 to November 22, 2024. The study was conducted in 7 midwifery academies in Palembang City. Of the total 619 female students in 7 midwifery academies, only 162 were willing and filled out the questionnaire. Results: The majority of students were <20 years old (62.3%), with percentages spread across 2021 (34%), 2022 (30.7%), and 2023 (25.3%). Most came from D-IV / S1 (63%) and Palembang (59.9%). All had a GPA ≥3.00, and the majority of study programs were well accredited (66.7%). A total of 37.7% of respondents had a family history of DSD, and 37.7% had interacted with DSD patients. Conclusion: The level of adequate knowledge of midwifery students in Palembang about DSD reached 50%. The majority were <20 years old (62.3%) and came from D-IV/S1 (63%). Most were from Palembang (59.9%), with GPA ≥3.00. The accreditation of the study program was predominantly excellent (66.7%). A total of 37.7% had a family history of DSD and had interacted with DSD patients. Keywords: Disorders of Sex Development (DSD)
