Abstract

Cervical cancer is a malignancy of the cervix wall with a high prevalence among women worldwide, ranking third after breast and colorectal cancer. The disease is primarily caused by Human Papillomavirus (HPV) infection, with HPV types 16 and 18 being the leading cause in more than 70% of cases. Cervical cancer patient survival is influenced by various factors, including stage, histopathology type, and management. This study aims to evaluate the survival of cervical cancer patients at Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Hospital Palembang for the period January 2021 – December 2023. This study used a retrospective cohort. Secondary data were taken from the medical records of cervical cancer patients at Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Hospital Palembang in the period January 2021 – December 2023. The study sample was all patients who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria using the total sampling technique. Data analysis was performed using the Kaplan-Meier method for survival estimation. This study obtained analysis results with 494 cervical cancer patients. The majority of patients were aged 46-55 years (42.5%), patients had a high school education level (47.8%), patients were multiparous (70.2%). Most patients were diagnosed at stage IIIB (42.5%), with a histopathology type of squamous cell carcinoma (75.3%) and underwent chemoradiation therapy (63%). The survival rate of cervical cancer patients during 36 months of observation showed that (70.8%) patients were still alive, while (62%) patients experienced loss to follow-up. The survival of cervical cancer patients at Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Hospital Palembang is influenced by the stage of the disease, histopathology type, and the type of therapy given. This data provides an important picture to improve early detection efforts and optimize the treatment of cervical cancer patients.
