Abstract

Unhealthy lifestyle changes in modern times pose a threat to coronary heart disease, particularly in the form of STEMI. According to the 2023 SKI report, ischemic heart disease ranks as the second leading cause of death from non-communicable diseases in Indonesia. STEMI does not only affect older individuals but can also occur in younger adults. This study aims to describe the patterns of STEMI among young patients. The study employed a descriptive observational design with a cross-sectional method. Data were collected from secondary sources, specifically inpatient medical records at Dr. Mohammad Hoesin General Hospital (RSMH). Primary data were also utilized to complete variables not available in the medical records. A total of 34 young STEMI patients (aged ≤45 years) who met the inclusion criteria were analyzed. The findings revealed that the majority of young STEMI patients were in the late adulthood age group (82.4%), male (88.2%), and had a higher education background (55.9%). The identified risk factors for STEMI included smoking (79.4%), hypertension (38.2%), obesity (35.3%), dyslipidemia (26.5%), and diabetes mellitus (8.8%). The predominant risk factor for young STEMI patients at Dr. Mohammad Hoesin General Hospital Palembang was smoking.
