Abstract
Background: Cutaneous Adnexal Tumors (CATs) are neoplasms arising from the differentiation of adnexal skin structures, including sebaceous glands, hair follicles, apocrine, and eccrine glands. While most CATs are benign, some have malignant potential. Major risk factors include genetic predisposition, ultraviolet radiation, and ionizing radiation. The scarcity of research data in Palembang and South Sumatra prompted this study to examine the clinicopathological characteristics of CATs at RSUP Dr. Mohammad Hoesin from 2019 to 2023. The study aims to provide updated epidemiological data and inform the development of better diagnostic and management strategies. Methods: This descriptive study used a cross-sectional design and secondary data from medical records of CAT patients examined in the Department of Anatomical Pathology at RSUP Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang. The analysis focused on prevalence, age distribution, gender, lesion location, and histopathological characteristics. Results: The study revealed a predominance of malignant CATs (58.1%) over benign ones (41.9%), with sebaceous gland differentiation being the most common histopathological type (51.2%). Sebaceous carcinoma was the most prevalent malignant tumor (48.8%), while pilomatricoma was the most frequent benign type (11.6%). Most cases occurred in females (60.5%), particularly in the 50–59 age group (18.6%). Lesions were primarily located in the facial, head, and neck regions (83.7%), consistent with the distribution of adnexal skin structures. Conclusion: Cutaneous adnexal tumors are more commonly found in older females, with malignant tumors predominantly showing sebaceous gland differentiation, mainly in the head and neck regions. Keywords: Cutaneous adnexal tumors, clinicopathological characteristics
