Abstract

Entropion is a condition in which the edge of the eyelid turns inward, and often leads to the wrong position of the eyelashes. This condition can cause problems such as corneal infections, corneal injuries, the formation of abnormal tissue on the surface of the eye, and even loss of vision. One study states that the incidence of entropion increases with age. Indonesia has one of the largest elderly population cases with a population reaching 32.3 million people (11.75%). So, this study aims to determine the characteristics of entropion patients at RSU Sriwijaya Palembang for the 2021–2023 period. This research is a cross-sectional descriptive observational (cross sectional), namely by collecting secondary data on entropion patients from medical records at RSU Sriwijaya Palembang for the period 2021–2023 which was collected using total sampling. The study identified that entropion was more common in men (52.38%) and in patients aged over 60 years (71.43%). The inferior eyelid is the most frequently affected location. The dominant type of entropion is involutional entropion (71.43%). The commonly used correction procedure is the Weis procedure for involutional entropion. Entropion is more often found in the elderly group, this condition can occur in patients with a very wide age range, even up to 173 days of age. Entropion is predominantly found in patients aged over 60 years, male. Involutional entropion and Weis procedure types were dominantly found in patients.
