Abstract
Background: Critically ill patients are patients who are at high risk of serious and life-threatening health problems. Critically ill patients undergo treatment in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and are often indicated for early fluid resuscitation to improve hemodynamic stability and tissue perfusion, and reduce ICU mortality. Positive fluid balance is associated with higher mortality than negative fluid balance. This study aims to determine the profile of fluid balance patients admitted to the ICU of RSMH for the period January to June 2024. Methods: This study is a descriptive observational and uses medical record data of patients admitted to the ICU who meet the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Result: This study found that the majority of patients came from surgery (77%) with the characteristics of the most types of surgery was neurosurgery (43%), age group of 25-64 years (68,8%), male gender (55,8%), ringerfundin fluid (66,2%), median length of stay 4 days, serum osmolarity 324,6, (257,6-390,8) mOsm/L, mean hematocrit 33,6 ± 7,5%, normal BUN/Cr ratio (54.5%), SOFA score 0-7 (87%), and survival rate (81%). Cumulative fluid balance of surgical patients tended to be less negative than medical based on age, reason for admission, male gender, SOFA score, and survival outcome. Conclusion: Patients admiited to the ICU of RSMH in January-June 2024 were mostly from surgery with the most surgery was neurosurgery, age 25-64 years, male, predominantly ringerfundin fluid, median length of stay 4 days, serum osmolarity 324,6, (257,6-390,8) mOsm/L, mean hematocrit 33,6 ± 7,5%, normal BUN/Cr, SOFA score 0-7, survival outcomes, and cumulative fluid balance tended to be less negative than the medical patients.
