Abstract

Background. Head injury with intracranial lesions is one of the leading causes of global morbidity and mortality, including in Indonesia. Risk factors such as high traffic accidents, especially in productive age, increase the incidence of this case. The study aims to describe the morbidity and mortality profile of head injury patients with intracranial lesions at Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Hospital, Palembang in the period 2021–2023. Method. This study is a descriptive observational study with a retrospective approach. Data were taken from medical records of patients who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria, namely patients with head injuries and intracranial lesions. Results. Of the 162 patients analyzed, most were of productive age (15–64 years) as much as 70.37%, with the majority being male (75.3%). The most common type of intracranial lesion was epidural hematoma (EDH), found in 76 cases. The majority of patients had mild head injuries (34.6%). Most patients had a prehospital time >1 hour (92.6%), with the most common clinical manifestation being decreased consciousness (126 cases). Most injuries were caused by traffic accidents (75.3%). The majority of patients did not experience complications (70.4%) and more patients survived (90.1%). Conclusion. Head injury with intracranial lesions is more common in men of productive age. EDH is the most common lesion found, with a dominant prehospital time of more than 1 hour. The majority of patients experience mild head injury with the most common clinical manifestation being decreased consciousness. Motor vehicle accidents are the main cause, and the majority of patients treated do not experience complications and have a higher survival rate than death.
