Abstract

Background. Contractures are one of the serious complications and the major cause of morbidity in patients after burn injury. Contractures lead to loss or reduction in the Range of Motion (ROM) of the joints, interfering with mobility and resulting in difficulty performing daily activities. This study aimed to determine the characteristics of post-burn contracture patients at Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Hospital Palembang for the period 2021-2024. Methods. This study uses a cross-sectional study design. The sample of this study are post-burn contracture patients collected through secondary data from the medical records obtained through the total sampling method resulting in 97 samples. Results. Patients with post-burn contracture had the highest distribution in 5-14 years age group, male gender, flame burn injuries on the upper extremities, mid dermal and deep dermal depth, <10% TBSA, patients received surgical intervention in form of debridement and skin grafting within >5 days, contractures in one joint region, and finger joint contractures. Conclusions. In this study, most cases of post-burn contracture were found in children (5-14 years) and male gender. Most burns were caused by fire on the upper extremities with mid dermal and deep dermal tissue damage depths and burned area of <10% TBSA. Most burn patients received surgical intervention in the form of debridement and skin grafting withing >5 days. The majority of contracture cases affected one joint region with fingers joints are the most affected. Keywords. Joint Contracture, Burn Injury, Palembang.
