Abstract

Background: Gastric malignant tumors are the sixth most common malignancy in the world and the fourth leading cause of cancer death in the world. Approximately 90% of gastric malignant tumor cases originate from the epithelium, namely adenocarcinoma. The etiology and main risk factors for gastric malignant tumors are caused by Helicobacter pylori infection. Symptoms of gastric malignant tumors in the early stages are usually atypical, so they are more often found in the final stages. This study aims to determine the clinicohistopathological characteristics of gastric epithelial malignant tumors at Mohammad Hoesin Hospital, Palembang for the period 2020-2024. Methods: This study is an observational descriptive study using a cross-sectional design. The research data are secondary and are taken from the medical records of gastric malignant tumor patients at Mohammad Hoesin Hospital, Palembang for the period 2020-2024 with the fulfillment of inclusion and exclusion criteria. Results: A total of 36 samples with the fulfillment of the inclusion and exclusion criteria of the study, 50% of cases were poorly cohesive carcinoma. The age group where gastric epithelial malignant tumor cases were found the most was ≥60 years old (36.1%) with the most gender found in men (52.8%). The NOS location was the location where the most tumors were found in this study (36.1%) followed by the corpus (33.3%). Most patients complained of one dominant clinical symptom, namely epigastric pain (32 samples). Conclusion: Cases of gastric epithelial malignant tumors in this study were mostly found in male patients with an age group of ≥60 years. Epigastric pain was the most common clinical symptom found in this study. Poorly cohesive carcinoma was the most common type found in this study and was predominantly found in female patients in all age ranges.
