Abstract
Low Birth Weight (LBW) is a leading cause of infant mortality and is associated with various long-term complications, such as growth and developmental disorders. Maternal characteristics and behaviors during pregnancy are believed to influence the incidence of LBW. This study aims to explore this relationship. A cross-sectional analytical study was conducted involving 55 mothers who delivered babies at RSUP Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang in 2023. Samples were selected based on inclusion and exclusion criteria. Data were collected through structured interviews and medical record analysis. The analyzed variables included antenatal care (ANC) frequency, nutritional status, maternal behavior, and socioeconomic factors. Statistical analysis was performed using the chi-square test with a significance level of p < 0.05. The findings revealed that ANC frequency, nutritional status, and maternal behaviors, such as iron tablet consumption and dietary patterns, were significantly associated with LBW incidence (p<0.05). Socioeconomic status and birth spacing also influenced LBW outcomes. Mothers with fewer than six ANC visits had a higher risk of delivering low-birth-weight infants. Maternal behavior during pregnancy, particularly ANC frequency and nutritional status, plays a crucial role in preventing LBW. Education and improved access to quality ANC services should be prioritized to reduce the prevalence of LBW. Keywords: LBW, maternal behavior, pregnancy, ANC, nutritional status
