Abstract

A wound is a condition of tissue damage caused by sharp, blunt objects, chemicals, or extreme temperatures, without damage to muscle and bone, which can result in pain, social isolation, and risk of death. The wound healing process involves complex cellular and biochemical biological activities. The Clitoria ternatea L. contains bioactive compounds such as flavonoids, triterpenoids, steroids, alkaloids, and tannins. These compounds have broad pharmacological potential as anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and antibacterial. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of Clitoria ternates L. extract on wound healing. Experimental study with in vivo approach, which aims to test the effectiveness of ethanol extract of Clitoria ternatea L. in wound healing in male wistar rats. The research design was randomised post-test control group design using 25 rats and divided into five treatment groups: negative control (Petroleum jelly), positive control (Povidone iodine), and ethanol extract of Clitoria ternatea L. divided into three doses, namely 10%, 15% and 20%. Clinical wound assessment, histopathological examination of angiogenesis and re-epithelialisation and Imunohistochemistry examination of tumor necrosis factor-alpha were performed. The administration of ethanol extract of Clitoria ternatea L. for eight days can accelerate clinical wound healing, increase angiogenesis, accelerate re-epithelialisation, and reduce the expression of tumor necrosis factor-alpha.
