Abstract

Critical thinking ability is a necessary ability in the super smart society 5.0 era which plays an important role in improving the quality of human resources. Critical thinking is included in the design of 21st century learning skills that are relevant to the demands of the Independent Learning Curriculum. Students' critical thinking skills can be trained by providing HOTS (Higher Order Thinking Skills) type questions. Based on this, critical thinking analysis research was carried out in solving HOTS questions on the Atomic-Periodic Structure of Elements material. This research uses descriptive qualitative research methods. Data collection techniques use written tests and interviews. The research results show that the percentage value of critical thinking skills based on Ennis indicators includes providing simple explanations at 59% in the sufficient category, building basic skills at 83,8% in the very high category, concluding at 84,3% in the very high category, and determining strategy and tactics, namely 84.8% are in the high category. The overall percentage is 77.97% in the high category.
