Abstract
Changes in land use from green areas to impervious areas can lead to an increase in surface runoff. The increase in peak discharge for each annual return period is attributed to changes in the runoff coefficient (C), which subsequently raises the percentage of rainfall that contributes to surface runoff. This study focuses on analyzing trends in land cover change, specifically in areas with the highest percentage of lowlands in Palembang. The analysis utilized High-Resolution Satellite Imagery from SPOT-7 and employed the supervised Maximum Likelihood Classification (MLC) method using ArcGIS software. Results from the land cover analysis in the Kertapati Watershed revealed a significant increase in impervious area, rising from 7% in 2018 to 12% in 2021. Conversely, the area of cultivated vegetation, such as rice fields, increased from 41% in 2018 to 49% in 2021. The Soil Conservation Service Synthetic Unit Hydrograph and the Alternating Block Method (ABM) for rainfall distribution are used for hydrograph analysis. The findings indicated that the surface runpuff for a 10-year return period was 29.167 m³/sec in 2018, increased to 34.820 m³/sec in 2019, and slightly decreased to 34.169 m³/sec in 2021. These results suggest that while there is an increase in the impervious areas, the dominance of cultivated vegetation (lowlands) and natural vegetation (green open spaces) which account for more than 70% of the total areas manage to keep the surface runoff remains relatively small and not significantly impactful.
