Abstract
Indonesia is a country known for its abundant biodiversity. Some of the biodiversity is known to have potential as medicinal plants. One of them is the belulang grass plant (Eleusine indica (L.) Gaertn). This plant has a wide distribution in various regions and is found in vacant lots, rice fields and community yards. However, belulang grass is referred to as an invasive species that is difficult to control. On the other hand, it is also widely used by the community as a traditional medicine to treat cholesterol, hypertension, diabetes and other degenerative diseases. This is thought to be because the grass has antioxidant content in it. The purpose of this study was to obtain population density data, spatial distribution patterns and ethnobotanical utilization information of Sidomulyo Village, obtain a comparison of antioxidant activity of n-hexane, ethyl acetate and water methanol fractions, obtain compound groups and analyze IC50 values and analyze metabolite profiles in the leaves of belulang grass. The research was conducted in April 2024 - October 2024 in Sidomulyo Village, Air Kumbang District, Banyuasin Regency and Genetics and Biotechnology Laboratory, Department of Biology, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Sriwijaya University. The research methods used were field surveys, sampling, extraction, fractionation, purification of compounds, testing antioxidant activity (IC50) and testing metabolite profiles with GC-MS (Gas chromatography-Mass Spectrophotometry) instruments. The results showed that the population density of belulang grass plants in Sidomulyo Village based on the type of land use was found to be 612 individuals, the most dominating in yard land, namely 496 individuals (19.84%) with a spatial distribution pattern based on the calculation of the morisita index is cluster. The results of interviews by the Sidomulyo Village community that it turns out that belulang grass is traditionally used by the community as a medicine to treat cholesterol, hypertension and diabetes by utilizing leaf organs by drinking the boiled water. The results of strong antioxidant activity in the leaves of belulang grass were obtained in the N-hexane fraction (30.57 ppm) and the ethyl acetate fraction (56.86 ppm), while the methanol water fraction was not active in the strength of its antioxidant activity. The group of pure compounds that have antioxidant activity found in the leaves of the belang grass are the flavonoid group, the terpenoid group and the phenol group with very strong and powerful antioxidant compound strength. Pure compounds obtained from the leaves of belulang grass (Eleusine indica (L.) Gaertn) have very strong and strong antioxidant power. Pure compounds with phenol group (N1, E1 and E2) IC50 values obtained were (26.91 ppm, 68.38 ppm and 21.07 ppm), terpenoid group (N2 and N3) IC50 values were (34.75 ppm and 32.67 ppm), while flavonoid group (E3) obtained IC50 values of (15.98 ppm).Metabolite profile of belulang grass leaves obtained 69 compound peaks and identified 20 compounds with the highest peak and percent area. The highest peak consisted of nhexadecanoic acid, I-(+)-ascorbic acid 2,6 dihydroxy-decanoic acid and pentadecanoic acid (31.25%). Biosynthesis pathway tracing obtained 11 classes of metabolite classes with the highest class being fatty acids (25%), terpenoids and steroids (25%) and carboxylic acids (10%).
