Abstract

Klebsiella pneumoniae is a Gram-negative bacterium that can cause various infectious diseases, including pneumonia. Throughout its history, this bacterium has developed resistance to antibiotics. K. pneumoniae exhibits various resistance strategies, including enzymatic modification, gene mutations, and increased efflux pumps. The increasing prevalence of resistance each year has become a key factor in evaluating antibiotic therapy. This study demonstrates which antibiotics show high sensitivity as well as low sensitivity to K. pneumoniae. The specimens used were sputum samples from pneumonia patients infected with K. pneumoniae. The samples were processed using the VITEK 2 system, which automatically generated sensitivity results. This study employed a cross-sectional design, using data from the Medical Record Installation of RSUP Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang. Klebsiella pneumoniae was found in 14 inpatients, with varying sensitivity results. The data showed the highest sensitivity to the antibiotic Amikacin (100%), while the lowest sensitivity was observed for Cefazoline (71.4%). The most common age group was adults (18–64 years), which accounted for 50% of the cases. The majority of patients were male, comprising 64.3%. The most frequent diagnosis was CAP (57.2%).
