Abstract

Feed is an important factor to support fish growth. The growth rates and feed efficiency are important parameters in fish farming. The growth and feed efficiency can be increased by adding certain ingredients in feed including a garlic and turmeric. The research aimed to determine the best combination of garlic and turmeric extracts in artificial feed for kissing gourami. The fish reared at the Basics Fisheries Laboratory, Aquaculture Study Program, Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Sriwijaya. Feed proximate analysis was carried out at the Fish Nutrition Laboratory, Aquaculture Department, Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences, IPB University. This research was conducted on January-February 2024. This research used a completely randomized design which consists of six treatments and three replications. The treatment given was the combination of garlic and turmeric extracts with different percentage added to artificial feed, that are without garlic and turmeric extracts (P0), 100% garlic and 0% turmeric extracts (P1), 75% garlic and 25% turmeric extracts (P2), 50% garlic and 50% turmeric extracts (P3), 25% garlic and 75% turmeric extracts (P4), 0% garlic and 100% turmeric extracts (P5). The result showed that combination of 50% garlic and 50% turmeric extracts (P3) was the best treatment which resulted in absolute growth (weight and lenght) of 0.69 g and 0.42 cm respectively, protein efficiency ratio of 0.50, feed efficiency of 19.02%, and survival rate of kissing gourami 97.33%. The water quality data of P3 includes temperature 26.7-28.7℃, pH 6.5- 7.1, dissolved oxygen 3.4-3.8 mg L-1 , and ammonia 0.021-0.085 mg L-1.
