Abstract

One of the obstacles in snakehead fish farming is the availability of juvenile. The method that can be applied to increase juvenile production, is through hormonal stimulation such as thyroxine hormone. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of thyroxine hormone for the duration of hatching, the percentage of egg hatching, growth, the percentage of abnormalities, and survival. This research was conducted at Balai Perikanan Budidaya Air Tawar Sungai Gelam in September-October 2024. This research used a completely randomized design with five treatments and three replications. The treatments are P0 (without thyroxine hormone), P1 (throxine 0.1 mg L-1), P2 (thyroxine 0.3 mg L-1), P3 (thyroxine 0.5 mg L-1), and P4 (thyroxine 0.7 mg L-1). The results showed that differences in thyroxine hormone concentrations in snakehead fish eggs had a significant effect on the duration of hatching, the percentage of egg hatching, and survival. The best duration of hatching was 25.02 hours at P4 (thyroxine 0.7 mg L-1), the best hatcing percentage was 89.66% at P2 (thyroxine 0.3 mg L-1) followed by 88.00% at P0 (without thyroxine hormone) and the best survival was 85.96% at P4 (thyroxine 0.7 mg L-1). Water quality during the study was temperature ranging from 25.3-29.8C, pH 6.8-8.7, dissolved oxygen 3.0-5.9 mg L-1 and ammonia 0.000-0.092 mg L-1.
