Abstract

In situation where cases of sexual violence are increasing, reporting by mass media, particularly online media, often perpetuated stigmatization and stereotypes against survivors that reflect gender insensitivity. Gender perspective journalism played an important role in helping survivors recover. This research analyzes the reporting of sexual violence on Tribunsumsel.com in January 2023 using quantitative content analysis with indicators from Free Press Unlimited and journalism ethics assessment. Research findings include: selection of sources and stories (13,2%), elimination of gender stereotypes (89,5%), use of gender-sensitive language (28,9%), and coverage of gender equality issues (50%). Ethical assessment reveals: avoiding mixing facts and opinions (36,8%), avoiding explicit content (47,4%), protecting victim identities (42,1%), and protecting child perpetrator identities (94,7%). This finding highlights the incomplete implementation of gender perspective journalism at Tribunsumsel.com, especially in selection of sources and stories, gender-sensitive language, and journalism ethics.
