Abstract

Perigi Village, Pangkalan Lampam, has experienced significant land cover changes in recent years due to human activities, such as clearing land for agriculture and infrastructure. These changes impact local ecosystems, reducing vegetation density and affecting environmental quality. This research aims to analyze changes in land cover and vegetation density temporally using Sentinel-2A imagery in 2016, 2019, 2023, and 2024. The analysis uses NDVI (Normalized Difference Vegetation Index) to identify variations in vegetation conditions, and field surveys were carried out in an area of around 342.23 hectares which was divided into 5 areas by taking 20 sample points to measure the depth of the peat through drilling. The results of the analysis show that there is a gradual decrease in the high and moderate greenness categories seen in the high greenness category, initially the land area was 183.67 ha in 2016 to 62.03 ha in 2024, as well as an increase in areas with low and very low greenness seen in the categories non-vegetated land which initially was 0.03 ha in 2016 will become 11.55 ha in 2024 non-vegetated land, which indicating vegetation degradation. Analysis of the relationship between peat depth and vegetation density shows that peat depth is not strongly correlated with NDVI values, as shown by the Pearson correlation value of -0.37 and the p value of 0.107, which is a reference that this relationship is not significant. This study recommends that related parties carry out monitoring of vegetation conditions, as well as the importance of further analysis to identify the main factors that influence vegetation at various peat depths, to support sustainable land planning in this region.
