Abstract

The main factors in the design of low pressure and controlled irrigation systems are potential head, emitter discharge and uniformity of distribution (EU). The Drip irrigation systems require evaluation of their performance, and at the design stage there are several parameters that are tested, including emitter discharge and uniformity of distribution. This study aims to determine the relationship between potential head and emitter discharge in a controlled low pressure water supply device for drip irrigation systems. The research was conducted in the Greenhouse of Agricultural Engineering Study Program, Department of Agricultural Technology, Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya University in Indralaya from July 2024 to October 2024. The research was arranged using a Randomized Block Design (RBD) pattern for potential head treatment (H) consisting of 5 treatment levels, namely H1 (potential head 100 cm), H2 (potential head 150 cm), H3 (potential head 200 cm), H4 (potential head 250 cm), and H5 (potential head 300 cm), and each treatment level was repeated three times. The parameters observed were qa (average emitter discharge) and EU (uniformity of emitter distribution), supporting data Hl (head loss). Observations of the parameters were analyzed using the F-test at the 5% level, 5% BNT test, then continued with correlation and regression analysis. The potential head treatment affects the average emitter discharge and uniformity of emitter distribution. The increase in potential head from 100 cm to 300 cm resulted in a significant increase in emitter discharge, uniformity of emitter distribution and head loss. Emitter discharge is positively correlated with potential head and shows a non-linear relationship expressed by the Exponential equation Q = 0.117e0.0052.H. and the uniformity of emitter distribution is positively correlated with potential head and shows a form of non-linear relationship expressed by the polynomial equation EU = 61.148.H0.0582. As well as the largest head loss in the 300 cm potential head treatment, and the average pressure loss is 1.24 m. Based on the value of the average emitter discharge, uniformity of distribution, and head loss that occurs in a 10 m long lateral pipe with a distance between emitters of 20 cm, it can be stated that the best potential head treatment is 200 cm. The use of potential head needs to be considered if using different lateral lengths and emitter distances and there is a branch pipe before the lateral pipe.
