Abstract
The objective of the experiment was to study the treatment effect of soaking breaking seed dormancy of mucuna. The observation was conducted at Laboratory of Seed Technology, Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya University, from November 2008 to February 2009. The experiment was arranged in Completely Randomized Design with five treatments and five replications. The treatments was (A) soaking in glycerin acid, (B) soaking in water 8 hours, (C) soaking in hot water (85°C) 2 hours, (D) soaking in on KNO3 5% 2 hours, and (E) soaking in H2SO4 10% 10 minutes. The observed parameters were increase of seed weight (g), increase of seed moisture content (g), seedling height (% per day), seed germination (%), germination rate (% per day), time of cotiledone falling, and increase of leave number. The result showed that the soaking in hot water (85°C) for two hours gave the best result in breaking dormancy mucuna seeds for seed weight rate, seed moisture content rate, seed germination rate, seedling height rate, time of cotiledone falling, and increase of leave number than the others treatments.
