Abstract
The material plays an important role in everyday life, with aluminum alloy 6061 being one of the most widely used materials, particularly in the automotive and aerospace industries, due to its superior properties such as medium strength, formability, corrosion resistance, and relatively low cost. Aluminum is classified as a non-ferrous metal that currently attracts many researchers, engineers, and designers to be applied in the automotive and aerospace industries because it has a promising structure, especially in Alloy 6xxx. This study was conducted with the aim of determining and comparing the fatigue resistance of AA6061 material through the S-N curve due to heat treatment with torque fatigue testing using 2° and 3° twist angles. The method used includes heat treatment with a solution temperature of 530°C held for 2 hours and artificial aging at a temperature of 175°C held for 5 hours, followed by a torque fatigue test using a twist angle of 2° and 3°. The test results showed that the heat treatment applied to the specimen increased the fatigue resistance of the material compared to the specimen without heat treatment (NHT). Heat-treated (HT) specimens showed a 4.78% increase in cycles at a 2° twist angle and 35.96% at a 3° twist angle compared to NHT specimens. Macrostructure analysis using SEM revealed the presence of cracks and coastal marks in NHT specimens, while HT specimens showed brittle type faults without coastal marks. This study emphasizes the importance of controlling temperature and time in heat treatment to improve the fatigue resistance of AA6061 material. Keywords: Aluminum alloy 6061, heat treatment, torque fatigue.
