Abstract

Pt-Fe/C catalyst composition ratio of Pt:Fe = 1:0; 1:3; 1:1; 3:1 and 0:1 was successfully synthesized using impregnation and ball milling method. Pt-Fe/C catalyst was sprayed on the surface of Gas Diffusion Layer (GDL) in the form of ink to form Catalyst Layer (CL), spraying was done three times until Pt-Fe/C electrode was formed. The formed Pt-Fe/C electrodes were characterized using Cyclic Voltammetry (CV), Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS), and Linear Sweep Voltammetry (LSV) methods. CV and LSV characterization aims to determine the electrochemical properties of the electrode, while EIS characterization aims to determine the conductivity of the electrode. The results of CV characterization obtained the highest ECSA value in the 1:0 composition of 2,11 m2/g. The results of EIS characterization obtained the highest conductivity value in the composition 1:0 of 0,09 S / cm. The results of LSV characterization obtained the highest Q value in the 1:0 composition of 0,015 C. After the characterization process, the electrodes were assembled into Membrane Electrode Assembly (MEA) with other components and electrolysis was carried out to determine the hydrogen production rate of each MEA. The results showed that the best MEA to produce hydrogen is fastest in the composition of 0:1 with a current of 2 A in 92 seconds with 2,7 mL/s hydrogen production rate.
