Abstract

Cardiac arrest is a life-threatening emergency condition that can occur anywhere and will be fatal if first aid is not performed such as cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). First aid can be performed by the community or the person who first finds the victim of cardiac arrest. This study aims to determine the relationship between knowledge and community intention towards CPR actions. The research design in this study was a quantitative correlation with a cross-sectional approach. The number of samples in this study was 258 respondents using the Purposive Sampling technique. Data collection used a questionnaire sheet that was tested with Chi Square. The results of the study showed that respondents with a low level of knowledge were 137 respondents (53.1%), and the intention to take high action was 110 respondents (42.6%). The results of the Chi Square statistical test obtained there was relationship between knowledge and community intention towards CPR (p-value =0,000). One of the factors that influences community intention towards CPR action was knowledge, so efforts to increase community knowledge about CPR need to be carried out by considering community characteristics.
