Abstract

This study aims to explore and analyze in greater detail the role of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in assisting the Indonesian government in combating the practice of "mail order brides" (MOB) from Indonesia to Tiongkok, which is a form of human trafficking. The research adopts a qualitative approach with descriptive analysis, utilizing the theory of the role of international organizations based on Archer's framework, focusing on instruments, arenas, and independent actors. The findings of this study highlight the significant role of various international instruments, particularly the Palermo Protocol, which has been ratified by Indonesia through Law No. 21 of 2007, in the effort to combat human trafficking. The protocol aims to prevent, suppress, and punish human trafficking, with a focus on protecting women and children. IOM plays an active role in supporting the implementation of this policy through programs such as training for law enforcement officials, community outreach, and assistance for victims. Furthermore, international forums like the Global Forum on Migration and Development (GFMD) also play an important role in supporting cooperation among countries and international organizations to exchange experiences and policies in addressing human trafficking. Despite significant efforts to address the issue of MOB, challenges remain in terms of monitoring the working conditions of migrant workers and the still insufficient legal protection.
